desert INK’s considerable research and experience in designing streetscapes has led to this ‘home zone’ design now under construction in Dubai for a leading developer. With limited street widths available, ‘pinch point planters’ were created to not only calm traffic, but generate pockets of vegetation which would have otherwise been impossible on a compact street packed with below ground services. Knowing that large, large street trees are a critical element of such streets, desert INK used a below-paving soil cell system to support the traffic load, while maintaining huge, un-compacted soil zones for the trees to access beneath the road.
